Spain playing again this evening, I dug this postcard Debbie bought in spain a few years back you may have seen the sort of thing with real fancy, bright material stuck on to make the pretty flamenco ladies' dress extra vibrant and exciting! Watercolour and pencil 29cm x 19cm click here to bid.

#216 England Horn

#215 Hot Dog
This is a sweetie hot dog, one of the most quintessential foodstuffs of America, hot dogs not sweetie hot dogs. Painted today because the USA are playing football tonight against Ghana, whilst tomorrow is England's knockout match with Germany..so that will be a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon....not! I am loving how obscurely these paintings are relating to the world cup. I expect tomorrows picture will be more directly footyball related. watercolour and pencil 14cm x 9cm click here to bid.

#214 Tin of Paprika
I have been looking out for objects linked to the various nations that are involved in the world cup footballing tournament that is going on at the moment on the day of each painting. I realise I have found mostly things made in or pertaining to Europe, no surpise really living.. as I do ..in Europe. But interesting nonetheless. This is Spanish paprika... Spain went through this evening and the knockout part of the tournament will begin tomorrow, how exciting. Watercolour and pencil 14cm x19cm click here to bid.

#212 Glenn Johnson
Well, its a little Glenn Johnson 'Stick on yer fridge toy'...it's actually called a 'Soccer Sucker' (you can see the sucky bit underneath Glenn). You find them in little footballs from supermarkets and they stick on things like windows and fridges. They must have been put together some time ago because there are lots of players in the set who aren't in the squad. Glen is and he played against Slovenia this afternoon and we (England) won! Woo Hoo! Congrats to all you Americans out there and commiserations to all you Slovenians (I've checked and, so far, no-one from Algeria has visited the blog but commiserations anyway). I am going to continue my recovery from the football this afternoon, it is said a lot but, it isn't easy watching England play football. Watercolour and pencil 19cm x14cm click here to bid.

#211 Vine Leaf
I wanted to paint something typical of one of the teams in action today....France..South Africa...Uraguay...Mexico...Nigeria... Greece... Argentina and South Korea were all playing today so I was spoilt for choice a bit. I went for the Greeks (mostly because we have a vine in the greenhouse) and the vine leaf is a staple of Greek food plus it is one of the two countries I have visited, with France. But the less said about French footballers the better I think. Go Europe! Watercolour and pencil 29cm x19cm click here to bid.

#210 Guernica (old Keyring)
It took Picasso months to paint the original Guernica which I think is one of the most important paintings ever made. I painted my version (probably not one of the most important paintings ever made) during half time of the Spain v Honduras match in the world cup. It used to be Debbies keyring I brought when I went to Madrid a few years ago, but unfortunetely it broke and now lives in the studio. Watercolour and pencil 19cm x14cm .

#208 Dutch House
Holland won this afternoon so I thought it would be a good opportunity to paint one of the little Dutch houses we bought when we went to Amsterdam a few years ago. We have six (all different styles) and I decided I would paint a house for each Dutch goal (not sure what I would have done ifno goals were scored!) So the final score was Holland 1-0 Japan so One house! Still life, football, delfware, architecture I could only make this more Dutch if I painted some cheese covered in red wax next to it! #207 England Shirt Keyring
I'm not usually one for flag waving and patriotism but I have always loved the football World Cup and especially England matches (I say love, obviously they are the most difficult, nervous vomit inducing sporting events that you can watch) However that is all going to change tonight in the England v Algeria match! Common Inglaaand! Watercolour and pencil 14cm x9cm click here to bid.

#203 Jelly Football Boot
A football jelly sweet, I chose a yellowish /gold one to represent the golden boot awarded to the highest goal scorer in the world cup, and yes I am attempting to paint a world cup related object throughout the tournament, be warned I predict the link to football will be veeery tenuous on some days. Wish me Luck! Watercolour and pencil 14cm x 9cm click here to bid.

#198 Plant Label
My search for an object to paint took me outside this evening first I got caught by the strawberries and how they need netting, then I weeded a bit of the garden around some lettuces...finally I got to the greenhouse and was looking through a pot of 'things' and found a few old plant labels and chose this one because I really want the purple sprouting broccoli to grow and I thought it nice and ironic that there is no purple (the colour) on the label, just some yellow (contrasting to purple) which I think was some seaweed plant food. Watercolour and pencil 19cm x14cm click here to bid.

#197 Empty Watercolour Pan
As you can see I am very very close to running out of Magnesium Blue (dont worry I have a tube as well!) I have painted this already this year but it had more paint in it then and was with its colour brothers and sisters.
Mag. Blue has been a revelation to me throughout this years paintings. I have used it a lot to make the shadows on the watercolours have a bit of life to them. Before I discovered it (in my tin!) I would probably have used cobalt or ultramarine blue but, I prefer the slightly unusual/turquoise nature of this blue. The dark bit in this painting is some leaked Paynes Grey from the neighbouring pan. Watercolour and pencil (and magnesium blue) 14cm x 9cm click here to bid.
