#037 Ring of Paint

This is a little ring of white paint that is on the outside of an old wooden box that we keep sketchbooks in, the sketchbook I was looking for wasn't in there but I liked this little circle of white, so its okay!

#036 Two Shirts

The top one is  one of my T shirts and the bottom one is one of my shirts, they are currently drying on the rack thingys over the bath. I do like a stripe!

#034 Studio Door

It's funny how a nice period of relaxation and time away from the usual everyday stresses and strains makes you notice things that you see all the time but don't really give much attention. This is a patch of the half sanded paint fom the studio door revealing at least three colours that the door has been paintedin the past. I think some of the layers may be undercoat, but it has definetely been green, yellow, pink and white although the pink could have been undercoat? Which reminds me, I must finish sanding and painting the studio door.

#033 Inside the Cracker Box

It's actually a cracker tin but it is boxing day so it's called 'Inside the Cracker Box' I have been eating these with soft goats cheese on all afternoon mmmm mmmm. ps I forgot to clean my brushes after yesterdays booze fuelled painting exploits...tsk tsk

Saturday 25 December 2010

#032 Tree Pot

Happy Christmas everyone-body! This is what was behind last nights painting, it's the festive pot cover for the Christmas tree and had been hidden by presents up until this morning. I must now go and consume some more brandy (I started while I was painting!) and dry roasted peanuts..

Friday 24 December 2010

#031 Christmas Presents

Better paint 'em tonight 'cos they wont be there for long in the morning! Have a great Christmas everyone and I'll see you tomorrow if you pop by to see what Christmas detail I am goint to paint.

Thursday 23 December 2010

#030 Tangerines in a Bowl

Christmassy and not Christmassy all at the same time! I'm not sure my camera can cope with the orange of this though!

Wednesday 22 December 2010

#029 Bootlace

I have to honour my walking boots this evening without which I would not have been able to get anywhere without getting very wet and cold feet. Thanks boots!

Tuesday 21 December 2010

#028 Corner of Wrapping Paper

We finished (nearly) the Christmas shopping today and yep, I've nearly wrapped everything. Now, if only I could get to the post office...

Monday 20 December 2010

#027 Icicles on Wheelie Bin

I have spent most of the day watching lorries skid, snow fall and these icicles form on my wheelie bin all from the comfort of my front room with a cup of tea and a mince pie.

Sunday 19 December 2010

#026 Primed Boards

It has been priming day here today (which might be why my neck hurts) so I thought it apt that I record the activity in today's painting. Here are three gesso primed boards complete with splashes of primer on my blue priming table.

Saturday 18 December 2010

#025 Snow in Bush

Been a great day watching the outside worls dissapear under the snow had about 6 inches or so today I reckon! This is a little view from out of the front room window, I didnt fancy painting outside in this weather.

Friday 17 December 2010

#024 Envelopes

This is a pile of envelopes on a very red piece of card. Oooo very Christmassy. If you think you can handle mroe Christmasness (I am now on my christmas hols so I can) pop over to 'The Painted Advent' and see what I have painted there, it's not as red as this however.

Thursday 16 December 2010

#023 Sewing bag

I spotted Debbies sewing bag on the floor in the front room and had the urge, I get them every now and again, to paint a nice bit of purple.

Wednesday 15 December 2010

#022 Wicker chair

This is a mini nod to van Gogh's painting of his wicker chair, you know the one. This is the edge of a similar chair with some grey carpet in the background. Also a few more daily paintings are dry and listed on my etsy shop.

Tuesday 14 December 2010

#021 Christmas Cactus

No decorations up yet but there are Christmas themed plants in the front room. This one looked good in front of this grey vase, you can't tell it's a vase, but it is.

Monday 13 December 2010

#020 Cactus Pot

This is one of those cactus pots with a hot desert scene painted on the side, i bought it because it came with a good cactus. I sort of hate it but sort of love it at the same time and wasn't sure why I kept it but I kept it so I could paint it, apparently.

Sunday 12 December 2010

#019 Corner of Pallette

I have a lovely little collection of pallettes that I use, from a large perspex kidney shaped number to a pad of the tear off waxy paper things. This is a mini square pallette, complete with thimb hole. Unfortunately the thumb hole sits right on the bone that I broke following a tumble I took form my bicycle a few years ago so, can't hold it for very long without it aching. But it doesn't really matter because most of the paintings I make are very small and require me sitting on a chair or on the floor. Bloody hell I do go on sometimes....

#017 Bit of my Office

Please don't tell my bosses but, I painted this one at work because we have Debbies works Christmas meal this evening and I wont get home until very late tonight or possibly after 12 and I may not be in any fit state to handle paint or brushes! This is a little corner of the windowsill (yes I am obsessed with window sills) in my office which I will have to vacate at the end of this academic year, which is a bit sad but hopefully there will be plenty of new things to paint at the new place.... So I wont run out of subject matter. UPDATE: I was in no fit state when I got home this morning, lucky I painted early or it would have tomorrow and I wiould ave missed a day pheweee!

Thursday 9 December 2010

#016 Bathroom Skirting

This is a little bit of the floor and skirting board from the bathroom, I am loving it that you would have no idea what this was if I didn't tell you.

Wednesday 8 December 2010

Tuesday 7 December 2010

#014 Rug

Thius is the north west corner of our front room rug. I love this rug, the only problem with is that it malts like a dog in spring... all year... fluff everywhere! Oh well.

Monday 6 December 2010

#013 Wardrobe

I have just realised what a wonderful little insight into the decor in my house this is. Here is the purple wall and the lovely, rich, oiled floorboards and the new wardrobe, which was this weekends building activity.

Sunday 5 December 2010

#012 Petal

I bought Debbie a bunch of flowers for her birthday, 12 days ago, they had been clinging on to life but they are definetely past it now. This is one of the lily petals fallen on the hearth tiles.

#011 Radiator Pipe

Just as when I started these paintings I found myself looking for objects to paint all the time I am now looking in allsorts of odd places to find little bits of detail to paint like this radiator pipe in the studio which I thought would make a nice partner to last nights hinge.

Friday 3 December 2010

#010 Hinge

This is a door hinge
from the studio entrance
with two flathead screws

Tempting as it is
to write the posts in this way

#008 Paintbrush

This is one of my favourite brushes a filbert size 6 also known as a cats tongue brush. It is laying on a suitable messy painting rag, right where I left it after painting last night. Ths is oil on gesso and is teeny, tiny only 5cm x 5cm. In picture buying news you may have seen the shiny new 'Etsy' tab on the right hand side of this post if you click it you will be taken to my new shop, which is where I will be selling this years paintings They have varying prices to match the varying pictures and various sizes!

Tuesday 30 November 2010

#007 Pile of Books

No prizes for guessing the books tonight! I couldn't resist the number reference. Oil on gesso.

Monday 29 November 2010

#006 Corner of Studio

This is a little corner of the studio where I teach my evening classes, I stayed behind this evening to paint most of this, much to the annoyance of tonights security guard who wanted to lock up and get back to his warm office and his teddy bear. It was the last one of this years evening class run tonight, which is always a little sad but there will be more next year. (apologies for photo quality, normal service will be resumed as soon as I, and the camera batteries, have recharged) Oil on Gesso.

Sunday 28 November 2010

#005 Pots

Two pot trays from the studio windowsill.  I've started to call this years paintings 'Dan Young, Daily - Details'. Oil on gesso.

#003 Mug

This is a corner of the mug that I keep pencils in on my desk. Oil on gesso.

Thursday 25 November 2010

#002 Cardboard Box

Not just any cardboard box, this cardboard box is the archive box that I am keeping safe the 21 musical instrument paintings I made for CCP's 21st birthday . More about those pictures in the coming weeks. This is the corner of the box painted where I set it down on the table in the studio (hence the messy desktop) when I got in from hanging, and talking a bit about them, at Cheltenham Art Gallery this evening at a special event to highlight the auction and CCP's excellent work supporting and improving the lives of children, young people, families and vulnerable adults with multiple and complex needs, specifically the work the Musical Youth project does with young musicians. Oil on Gesso.

Also, the last batch of watercolours are all on ebay now so please have a browse, I want to see how these dry before I start to open the auctions for these new paintings on ebay.

#001 Empty Platform

Welcome to year three! I have followed through on my promise of painting absolutely nothing. I have actually painted the little platform that I have placed (nearly) all of the last 730 objects on to paint. I am throwing the 'Dan Young, Daily' Rule book out of the studio window. Objects will no longer be the star of the paintings, the background will become the subject with the occaisional 'thing' peeking in from the side of the painting. I hope you will enjoy watching this project grow with me as I banish my fear of backgrounds ('m not really frightened I have just been hiding from them for two years!). Oil on gesso 23cm x 17cm.

ps I have been busy uploading the last batch of watercolour paintings  to ebay click here to bid.

Tuesday 23 November 2010

#365 Chocolate Cake

The last day of this years watercolour paintings and Debbies Birthday! Hooray all round. This is the most chocolatey birthday cake you will ever meet, three bars of chocolate and a most of a pot of cream strawberry jam and chocolate cake....mmmm. A big thanks to everyone who has been following the project over the year and I hope you will stay with me as I move into the next year of paintings. More about that tomorrow what I will tell is a few changes, back to oil paint, various sized paintings, no 'whole' objects, more concentration on background, and  thats it I'm not telling anymore Watercolour and pencil 29cm x 19cm

Monday 22 November 2010

#364 Paintbrushes

I realised the other day that I had used these same three brushes all year, I lost count of how many brushes I got through during the year of oil paintings but this year no casualties at all..interesting. I have even put a visual clue to next years paintings in there, can you spot it... Watercolour and pencil 29cm x 19cm.

Sunday 21 November 2010

#363 My Watch

Yes, I am afraid its nearly time to stop this years painting series and start the next one, I think it was about this time last year I painted my watch, all I can tell you is it wont happen next year.... Watercolour and pencil 29cm x 19cm.

Saturday 20 November 2010

#362 Sesame Seed Roll

I have started making bread at the weekends, I started a few weeks ago with a simple loaf, last week a gorgeous foccacia and today I made some rolls (a little heavy if I am being over critical but very tasty nonetheless). Watercolour and pencil 19cm x 14cm. I haven't got any clues for you today...

Friday 19 November 2010

#361 Earring

I havent painted much jewellry (if any..) mostly because neither of us wear much (if any..) this was either found lying around and about and collected to maybe paint (probably last year) or it could have been sent by a friendy follower eager for me to have enough objects to paint... I can't remember which but anyway I thought it a nice little thing to paint today as I was rooting around the studio on my day off. also been doing a little bit of prep for the next daily project which begins on Wednesday.....Watercolour and pencil 14cxm x 9cm

Thursday 18 November 2010

#360 Compass

The full 360 degrees. Sorry couldn't help it. Watercolour and pencil 19cm x 14cm.

Wednesday 17 November 2010

#359 Cauliflower

This isn't a honegrown cauli but as we eat about one a year it might not be worth it. On another note there are only 6 days left of looking for objects every day after tuesday  I will have a new 'thing' to keep my eye out for after that. Suffice to say I have largely ignored next years subject matter for two years now. mmmmmmmmm?. Watercolour and pencil 14cm x 9cm.

Tuesday 16 November 2010

#358 Lettuce

A Little Gem lettuce to be exact ...but you knew that didn't you? Watercolour and pencil 19cm x 14cm.

Monday 15 November 2010

#357 Crushed Coffee Cup

I don't believe I have painted a paper cup from the canteen at work before..well now I have. I like the way it talks about the environment and has pictures of trees and leaves on it, just so you know what was destroyed for you to have a paper cup. nice. I prefer ceramic mugs.... Watercolour and pencil 19cm x 14cm.

Sunday 14 November 2010

#356 Toy Gun

Wouldn't the world be a lovely place if all guns were as small as this one and made of bendy plastic. Watercolour and pencil 14cm x 9cm click here to bid (proceeds to Royal British Legion) I will be adding more drawings to ebay soon watch this space.

Saturday 13 November 2010

#355 Cardomom Pod

I made a thai green curry this evening and this cardomon pod was hidden within my rice so, I win the prize. The prize is.. the pod itself. Watercolour and pencil 14cm x 9cm.

Friday 12 November 2010

#354 Toothbrush

Only 11 days to go to the end of this years painting-athon and I have been thinking about things I do or use everyday and it struck me that I haven't painted my toothbrush in the last two years of daily painting. So I did one, and here it is. Watercolour and pencil 29cm x 19cm.
