#97 Cornflake
Not much needs to be said about this painting, its a cornflake, I love cornflakes morning or evening. This one has a nice curl which is what made it stand out from its colleagues. Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#96 Cowboy Hat
This has a great little tale attached to it which we only realised just now before I posted. This is the cowboy hat from a mini version of the 70's classic 'Buckaroo'. It was given to Debbie by Paul whose Birthday it is today, what a great coincidence! Happy Birthday Paul!! Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#95 Violin Tuning Peg
Musical instrument cases are a fascinating source of small objects and Debbies Violin case is no exception. This spare tuning peg is one of a few things I may paint in the near future. I think there is a good 'black objects' thread going through the project. Colour fans amongst you will be interested to learn the only colours used in the execution of this painting are burnt umber, ultramarine blue, titanium and zinc white and the tiniest bit of schevenings blue. Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#94 Food Marker
You know the things.. food markers! The cocktail sticks stuck in your food that tell the waiting staff what the dish is, often seen in steaks marking how rare or otherwise they have been cooked. Please do comment below if you know what they are called. This one is from a well known portuguese restaurant chain where I dined this lunchtime with two friends. We all had the same so why they needed these I am not sure. Very glad they did however as its a nice bright, colourful but throwaway subject for a painting. Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#93 Snail Fossil
This little snail fossil has a good story that has nothing to do with today at all, but I will tell it anyway. In our last flat we took on a bit of the back garden in a vain attempt to tame blackberries and ground elder and to grow plants underneath two huge sycamore trees. While making a gravel bed using stone chippings we noticed this snail shaped stone which turned out to be a fossil, it has lived with us ever since. The only good snail is a fossilised snail! Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#91 Dipper
This is one of those objects that will be instantly recogniseable to anyone who has painted with oil colours and a mystery to someone who hasn't! It is a 'Dipper' which is a small container for your linseed oil or turps or other painting medium. The clever thing about it is that it clips on to your palette. I dont think I have ever seen one with a lid like this one, which as yet we haven't got off. This was amongst a fascinating suitcase full of art materials that belonged to the father of a friend and colleague of Debbie's which has now passed into to my care. I wanted to mark the day with a painting of something of his and this is just the type of painting ephemera I enjoy to paint. Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#88 Plectrum
I have had the idea of painting a plectrum for a while now, probably since the jigsaw piece from the first month of the project. I originally had a multi coloured one in mind to paint but I lost it. Even though I got it when I was probably about 14 specifically to be brightly coloured so I wouldnt lose it! Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#87 White Feather
I had to paint something white after the black of yesterdays painting, this has been sticking out of the soil in a large cactus that must be about 28 years old, the cactus not the feather. The supersticious among you may find yourselves with a burning desire to push this into the ground for good luck... resist! Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#86 Mermaids Purse
I am not sure when I knew what these really were, the idea that they were purses for mermaids caught my young untamed imagination. I always wondered why no other mermaid accesories were washed up on our shores! This particular example is Debbies and has been in her care since she was little. No particular reason for this to be painted today I just liked the form of it. Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#85 Pile of Woodwose Chippings
Todays post is a joint post with Woodwose Carving, click here to visit and find out what a woodwose is! Dave has very kindly kept the waste from one of his carvings, a small woodwose based on the norse god Thor. This came about from a suggestion Dave made on the 'Dan Young, Daily' group on facebook, where among other objects he suggested wood shavings as a subject for a painting.
So, I suggested a double post one of his woodwose and one of a painting of all the bits of wood that didn't become a woodwose!

#83 Party Ring
Happy Valentines Day! Or happy new paint day, I have been spending more money than I care to admit to on paint today, so do remember that when you bid! Here you can see in use my new brilliant rose, lemon yellow and carmine lake and some old colours too. I needed some really artificial brightly coloured paint and to test it out I got some artificially coloured food! Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#82 Toy Eye
This is an eye from Debbies box of eyes, noses, buttons, bells etc. the kind of place where there will always be something unusual to paint. This was the most unatural of all the eyes and it looked like it was really staring at you. A painting that looks at the viewer seemed like a good idea. Dan Young, Daily is also featured in the Gloucesterhsire Echo today click here to read the article, and you can look at me! Oil on gesso 16cm x12cm.

#81 Pink Peg
I found this pink peg knocking around the painting studios at work (University of Gloucestershire, fine art dept). Not sure whose it is but if you recognise do come forward! Its an odd, stubby peg not your normal clothes hanging variety which might be why I wanted to paint it. Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#73 Origami Plane
Its not that I am obsessed with 'daily doings' but I got Debbie an origami a day calender for christmas, I also got my Dad a puzzle a day for a year but I doubt that will produce any subject matter. This paper plane was one of the folds in that calendar from early January. I found the instructions and made this little plane to paint today. Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.

#72 Two Knitted Liquorice Allsorts
This is the first double object painting in the series. These two knitted versions of liquorice allsorts were sent to me by my partners Mum after seeing the paintings of allsorts I made a couple of weeks ago. Thanks Kate! I started to paint the yellow one, left a lot of space to the right of it and couldnt resist putting the the pink one in. Oil on gesso 16cm x 12cm.
